The museum is open to the public Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, June 26 through October 11, 1 to 4 p.m.

Group tours and education programs are offered by reservation throughout the year. The museum also offers guided tours of the collection. Please call for a schedule.

The museum houses an exhibit showing how the railroad influenced industry and everyday life in Harwich. Included is a working HO scale model train layout of the town and surrounding area, built by the Nauset Model Railroad Club.

February 5, 12,19, 26 Introduction to Astronomy
Tuesdays at 10 AM. Four sessions and one observation night. Explore the solar system, planetary galaxy, stars and stellar evolution with Jarvis Hunt, retired astronomy teacher and member of Cape Cod Astronomy Society. Non-members $5, members $4 for all sessions.
April 6, Sun. 2 PM On Yankee Ingenuity and Grit
Lecture by Theresa M. Barbo, author and historian. Profiles three centuries of the “quintessential Yankee”. Admission.
May 4, Sun. 2 PM Pirate or Privateer: The Story of Capt. Kidd and Cape Cod
Lecture by Chris Macort, historian and underwater archaeologist. Celebrating the 15th annual Cape Cod Maritime Days . Location TBA. Admission.


June 22, Sun. 2-4 PM OPENING DAY

War Knows No Sabbath”—Harwich in the Civil War
Other exhibits include “All Aboard the Harwich Railroad” and “Cranberry Culture—the Harwich Story” and other displays

June 29, Sun. 2 PM Bird Carving on Cape Cod
Lecture by Steven Weaver, well-known local bird carver, traces the history of this popular art form on Cape Cod. Admission.
July 8, Tues. 9 AM - Noon

"Kids Go To Sea"
Experience life at sea during the Civil War era with this new program offered to 8-10 year olds. Program is based on the memoirs of Harwich's Sarah Weekes Foster, who spent two years at sea aboard her father's ship. Includes hands-on activities. $10 per student/$8 members. Program is sponsored by grants from the Arts Foundation of Cape Cod and Harwich's Cranberry Festival Committee.

July 13, Sun. 2 PM Rails to Harwich and Beyond
A lecture by members of the Nauset Model Railroad Club chronicles the history of the railroad on the lower Cape during the mid 20th century. Non-members $4. Members of the Society and Nauset Model Railroad Club $3.
July 19, Sat. 10 AM – 4 PM The 22nd Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry, Inc. Civil War reenactment group will encamp on Museum grounds, bringing history to life. Military camp-life activities, Museum tours, and activities for children. Free admission to the encampment. Fee for Museum tours. Funded by a grant from the Harwich Cultural Council.
August 2, Sat. 10 – 4 Village Crafters
Craft show by juried local craftsmen offers unique gifts and accessories. Refreshments for sale. Museum open for tours. Free admission to show; fee for Museum tours.
August 21-23, Thu-Sat. 1-4 Farm Fest
Tours of the Cape’s most extensive cranberry farming museum exhibit with hands-on activities for children. Sponsored with the Harwich Chamber of Commerce.
August 24, Sun. Noon-2 PM Harvest Pie Sale
All home-made! All delicious! Benefits the Museum Programs.
Sept. 27, Sat. 10-2 Hometown Treasure Sale
Rent space to sell your treasures or crafts. Benefits the Museum.
Oct. 11, Sat. Museum closes for the season at 4 PM.
Open by appointment thereafter.
Oct. 19, Sun. 2 PM Food For The Dead
Lecture by Michael Bell, historian and folklorist, will explore the vampire tradition in 19th century New England. At Brooks Free Library. Co-sponsors: Brooks Free Library.
Nov. 16, Sun. 2 PM Early American Glass
Lecture by Joan Kaiser, author, illustrator and collector, discusses early American glass, focusing on Sandwich glass. Admission.
Nov. 22, Sat. 10-2 Holiday Fair
Decorated table-top trees for all occasions, holiday decorations and goodies for sale.
Dec.14, Sun. 5 PM Christmas Tree Lighting and Carol Sing
Get the holiday spirit with singing, hot cider and cookies at this popular family event.
Guided Walking Tours of Historic Harwich Center; Costumed guides tell the stories and point out the sights of this historic village on First Saturdays: July 5, August 2, Sept. 6 and Oct. 4. Begins at 2 PM at the Museum. Admission.
